What Makes Treehotel Sweden So Different

Treehotel is located in Harads, a small village in Swedish Lapland. It’s removed from all city life, giving it a remote and serene vibe from the second you arrive. You’ll be secluded in nature, able to fully unwind and relax throughout the duration of your stay.

Instead of being just one treehouse, or a cluster of treehouses that all look essentially the same, Treehotel is a collection of individually designed cabins. And they are truly stunning. Every room is elevated, attached to trees, and accessed by ramps, bridges, or ladders. None of them looks the same. One even disappears into the forest! Others look like they dropped out of a sci-fi movie. It’s not your traditional, rustic treehouse. It’s uniquely designed to be eye-catching yet functional and cozy.

The Treehouses: Which Room You Choose Matters

There are eight rooms at Treehotel Sweden. There’s no “right” one to choose. But we’re sure one will call out to you, just like we have our favorite too.

7th Room

This is the most spacious of all the treehouses at Treehotel Sweden. It’s ideal for travelers staying for more than one night who want to be able to spread out more, or a family of up to five people. It has a bit less novelty and wow-factor compared to some of the others, but it makes up for that in comfort. It also has large windows and a transparent floor, which makes you feel like you’re floating above the forest floor. There’s also an eco shower and an incineration toilet inside the treehouse.

Biosphere

This treehouse brings nature to your doorstep. The exterior is decorated with hundreds of birdhouses, so that birds are drawn right to you. This one also has a shower and a sauna and is designed for two people.

Bird’s Nest

We especially love this treehouse because it feels like you’re a bird in the forest. It’s more camouflaged and looks like it belongs naturally in the forest compared to some of the others. It’s also fairly spacious. You just have to climb a ladder to access the interior. This is a great pick for adventurous travelers who want something truly different. It’s not the best for those afraid of heights or who have mobility issues. The Bird’s Nest treehouse has one double bed and two single beds, so it’s spacious enough for four guests. There’s also an incineration toilet inside.

Blue Cone

Blue Cone is Treehotel Sweden’s most accessible treehouse. It has ramp access and a comfortable layout. It’s more of a traditional treehouse compared to some of the others. And it fits up to four people (with a double bed and a sleeping loft with two single beds), making it one of the best choices for families. An eco-shower and incineration toilet are included.

Dragonfly

The Dragonfly is another family-friendly treehouse sleeping four. It’s expansive and includes a shower and an incineration toilet. This is also a great choice for couples who want more of a living space to share.

Mirrorcube

This is the most famous room at Treehotel Sweden. It’s because the mirrored exterior reflects the forest, making the treehouse seem to almost disappear into its surroundings. It’s a top-pick for photographers, couples, or first-time visitors. But because it’s the most famous room, there’s also higher demand. So book early if you plan to stay in this room! This one’s also a bit more cramped inside than some of the others, which is something to consider if you like your space. The bathroom inside the treehouse makes this one an excellent pick for a winter stay, so you don’t have to go out in the snow!

The Cabin

The Cabin is perched on a hillside and is accessible by bridge. We love that this one has a deck for you to spend more time outdoors, admiring the view. We find this one to be particularly romantic. This one fits two people and includes an incineration toilet.

UFO

This one’s exactly what it sounds like! The design resembles a UFO, which really stands out amongst the forest. It feels less immersed visually, but it’s a really fun design that is especially perfect for families of up to five people and design lovers.

What It’s Really Like to Stay at Treehotel

We know you might have questions about what to expect during your stay. So here’s everything you need to know before your visit.

The cabins are all warm and well-insulated, which is really important if you plan to visit in winter. It’s a really cozy escape. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, but they’re not overly spacious, so it’s important not to expect a massive luxury-style room. The bathrooms are not inside most of the cabins. They’re located in a separate building nearby. The bathrooms themselves are heated and kept clean and well-maintained.

Vibewise, Treehotel is quiet, slow, and intentional. There’s no need for a packed itinerary here. It’s about relaxing and communing with nature. It’s an excellent spot to try to see the Northern Lights, and you can book a nearby expedition to further your chances of seeing them.

When to Visit Treehotel Sweden

The best time to visit Treehotel Sweden depends on what kind of environment you’d like around you. June through August is appealing since there are warmer temperatures, and you don’t have to worry about driving in bad weather to get there. You’ll also experience the Midnight Sun, where the sun stays out all day and night. This makes the days there feel even longer, in the best way. We think visiting during the shoulder seasons (April-May and Sept-Oct) is smart since prices are a little lower and it’s a less popular time to visit, so there’s likely to be fewer people. But the weather can be a little unpredictable during those times of year. If you’re hoping to see the Northern Lights and want the beautiful look of snow all around, then visiting from February through March is the best. The forest is covered in snow, which looks majestic. Prices tend to be higher this time of year, and you’ll need to be okay with walking outside in the cold to go to the restroom if your treehouse doesn’t have one.

Getting There

Most travelers fly from Stockholm to Luleå Airport and then drive or arrange a transfer to Harads. Driving naturally gives you more flexibility, but if you’re planning a trip in winter, you may not be comfortable driving. We recommend booking a transfer service so you don’t have to worry about how to get to Treehotel Sweden and can start unwinding as soon as you arrive at the airport.

Food & Dining

The area around Treehotel Sweden is remote, so there aren’t a ton of food options nearby. Luckily, the food served at the main lodge is excellent! They rotate their menus seasonally, and everything is thoughtfully prepared with the freshest local ingredients. There won’t be an overwhelming amount of options, but what they serve is always tasty and filling. Pro Tip: Bring some snacks for late-night munchies and to give yourself extra options.

Cost

Treehotel costs vary based on the rooms, season, and demand. Typically, they run between $500-800 per night for two people. But the higher-end cabins, like Biosphere and the 7th Room, can be as much as $1650 per night. These prices do include breakfast. You’ll also want to allot some extra money for the restaurant, spa sessions, and any guided activities you wish to partake in.

Is Treehotel Sweden worth the price? Well, let’s break it down. You’re paying for the remoteness and privacy, the unique design of the treehouses, the exclusivity (how many people get to say they’ve stayed in a UFO-shaped treehouse?!), and the overall peaceful experience. We also love the level of service they offer, from airport transfers to a variety of unique activities and adventures nearby. If you value uniqueness, intention, and memory over efficiency and traditional luxury, it’s worth it.

Booking Tips

Book early. There are only eight treehouses available, and they book up quickly, especially the Mirrorcube and 7th Room.

Choose your cabin based on how you travel. It’s really easy to pick the most photogenic treehouse. But even if it looks great on social media, you have to stay in it. So, make sure you pick one that gives you the right amount of space and amenities for the type of traveler you are.

Stay at least two nights if possible. It’s not terribly difficult to get to Treehotel, but it’s hard to relax when your stay is bookended with two travel days. Staying for two days gives you time to unwind and really make the most out of your stay.
