SUMMARY:Midsummer Festival
DESCRIPTION:Midsummer is Sweden’s most beloved holiday\, and we promise it’s nothing like the Midsommar movie! It’s a celebration of the summer solstice\, which is the longest day of the year. Swedes head out to the countryside\, lakesides\, or cottages to raise flower-crowned maypoles\, dance barefoot\, and feast on seasonal food. It’s celebrated this year on Friday\, June 19\, though some festivities commence on Thursday evening. Food-wise\, you can expect to find pickled herring\, potatoes\, sour cream\, strawberries\, and schnapps.

SUMMARY:Stonehenge Solstice
DESCRIPTION:The summer solstice is one of the few times when you’re allowed to gather inside the stone circle at Stonehenge. On June 21\, crowds will arrive overnight and gather to watch the sunrise align with the Heel Stone. It basically casts a light through the center of the monument. But it’s not just everyone waiting around on bated breath for the sunrise. It’s a huge celebration with musicians and people from all around the world. It’s magical\, spiritual\, and exciting!

SUMMARY:Running of the Bulls
DESCRIPTION:The Running of the Bulls is part of a larger week-long festival in San Fermín\, Spain\, with music\, parades\, and fireworks. But the bulls are definitely the part that has captured the world’s attention. Each morning at 8 am during the festival\, bulls run through the streets\, and brave (or crazy!) people run with them! If you’re running\, you’re expected to wear white with red scarves. And if you’re spectating\, it’s best to keep a safe distance and watch from the balconies above. The bull run tradition is hundreds of years old\, but it is as exciting as ever. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. The San Fermin Festival runs from July 6-14\, and the bull runs happen each morning from July 7-14.

SUMMARY:Belly Button Festival
DESCRIPTION:If you’re into body paint\, you’ll love the quirky festival of Hokkai Heso Matsuri. Furano City is located in the geographical navel\, so to speak\, of Hokkaido\, Japan. Therefore\, it only makes sense that people would create a festival where they would paint giant faces on their bellies. This festival takes place each year on July 28-29\, and Furano’s downtown area becomes a mecca for live music\, dancing\, food stalls\, and community events. It’s absurd in the best way.

Every pub\, theater\, and street corner is taken over by comedians\, singers\, poets\, circus acts\, and more. In 2026\, the Fringe starts on Friday\, August 7\, and ends on Monday\, August 31. We love this festival because you never know what you’ll encounter just around the corner. It feels like you’re a part of live theater everywhere you turn.

SUMMARY:La Tomatina
DESCRIPTION:Prepare to paint the town red! With tomatoes that is! La Tomatina turns a sleepy Spanish town into a red battlefield. The town of Buñol\, located near Valencia\, holds the largest food fight in the world. People gather from all around the world to throw tomatoes at each other in the middle of the streets. It’s equal parts fun and chaotic. This year\, La Tomatina takes place on Wednesday\, August 26th. It always takes place on the last Wednesday in August. Tens of thousands of people gather each year for about an hour of food-throwing fun. There’s also music\, parades\, and a greasy pole climb. The tomato throwing can’t commence until someone has climbed the pole and taken a ham from the top. Proper tomato-throwing etiquette dictates that people should squash the tomato before throwing it to keep it from hurting others. Goggles are also strongly encouraged. No one wants acidic tomato juice in their eyes!

SUMMARY:Air Guitar World Championships
DESCRIPTION:Some might not consider air guitar playing to be much of a skill. But in Finland\, it’s worthy of a full-on competition. This year in Oulu\, Finland\, you can watch people compete from August 26 to August 29. It’s an epic and joyous experience. Even though there are no real instruments\, there’s no lack of rock and roll spirit. The contestants are judged on their stage presence\, creativity\, and “airness\,” whatever that is!

SUMMARY:Yi Peng Lantern Festival
DESCRIPTION:This is a Buddhist festival of lights in northern Thailand where the night sky fills with hundreds to thousands of paper sky lanterns known as khom loi. Everyone can get in on the action and send up a lantern. Releasing a lantern is believed to rid you of misfortune and invite good luck into your life. It’s paired with the Loy Krathong tradition of sending decorated baskets along the river to let go of the past. These celebrations are tied to the full moon in November\, which means this year it takes place from November 24-25. It’s important to note that in recent years\, Chiang Mai has restricted the release of sky lanterns. So these mass releases now take place in specifically designated zones outside of the city.

SUMMARY:Krampusnacht
DESCRIPTION:Krampusnacht is a bit of a spooky event! On the evening of December 5th in Austria\, Germany\, and other areas of the Alps\, a horned demon that resembles a goat takes to the streets.
